I. Client Background
The contractor runs a fleet of AMM trucks for gold extraction, hauling heavy ore loads across unpaved, abrasive terrain. Tire failure directly impacts daily productivity and operating costs.
II. Previous Challenges
The previous supplier’s mining truck tires rarely lasted beyond three months. Rapid tread wear, sidewall cuts, and casing damage from sharp rocks caused frequent replacements and costly downtime. Without reliable retreading, every failure required a full new tire purchase, inflating cost-per-hour metrics.
III. Forlander Heavy Duty Truck Tire Solution
To solve these problems, the fleet adopted two Forlander truck drive tires: the 12.00R24 FD339 and the 12.00R20 FDL727.
2. FD339 — Heavy-Duty Drive Tire
Strengthened bead design for heavy loads. Big block pattern with excellent puncture and cutting resistance. Self-cleaning design protects the casing in abrasive mining conditions. These 12.00R24 tires are built for extreme off-road demand.
2. FDL727 — Ultra-Deep Open-Shoulder Tire
Proprietary mining compound for cut and crack resistance. Ultra-deep open-shoulder design for traction in severe environments. Strongest crown structure for overloading capacity at low speed. These 12.00R20 tires deliver reliable performance in remote mining operations.
IV. Forlander Tire Performance Results
Under full operational loads, the heavy duty truck tire performance results included:
Service Life: 5 months of continuous operation before requiring retreading
Retreadability: Successfully retreaded once, extending total casing utilization
Durability: Significant reduction in sidewall cuts and tread separation compared to previous brands
Availability: Fewer unplanned tire changes, reducing fleet downtime
The self-cleaning capabilities of both truck drive tires proved particularly valuable, minimizing stone retention that typically leads to casing damage.
V. Client Feedback
“Forlander tires have changed how we plan our fleet maintenance,” stated the fleet manager. “Getting five months plus one retread in these conditions is exceptional. The FD339 and FDL727 handle the rocks and abrasive roads far better than what we used before. We spend less time changing tires and more time moving ore.”
VI. The Future
Based on these results, the contractor plans to expand Forlander usage across additional AMM units. The successful retreading outcome has also prompted discussions with local retreading partners to establish a formal retread program, further reducing total tire cost per hour and improving fleet sustainability.
